Fishing Seasons

Chinook (King) Salmon

  • Gulkana River: June 10 to July 19
  • Klutina River: July 1 to August 10

Sockeye (Red) Salmon*

  • Gulkana River: June 10 to September 5
  • Klutina River: June 5 to July 30

*Note: The Sockeye runs vary from day to day, week to week and month to month depending on the number of openings of the commercial catch at the mouth of the Copper River near Cordova, weather and water conditions, temperatures and strength of the return.

There is an early run on the Klutina and the Gulkana often will have an early run and later run lasting up into early September. These runs are not predictable and we will attempt to put you on them when we see they are in the rivers.

Grayling, Rainbow Trout, Steel Head Trout

Whereas all of these species are in the rivers and available as soon as the ice clears the rivers, the Grayling is the only of the three that are available to catch and keep. They are also the most prolific and can be caught nearly any time in the summer. The Rainbow and Steel Head are not very populous and are strictly catch and release.
